Respect for the Land
At Ostatu we are convinced that a great wine is born in the vineyard. This is why we make our wines from our own vines, which have been planted, pruned, taken care of, and harvested by the family. This is the best way to ensure the quality of our Ostatu wines.
Our vines come from the very old vines that were planted by past generations of the family, so we have been able to select the very best vines to use to replant our younger vineyards, always using the local grape types found in the Rioja Alavesa: Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo, Garnacha, Viura and Malvasía.
Years of hard work, careful observation, studying and experimenting have shown us that in order to make a great wine, sustainable vineyard management is vital, as is obtaining low yields with our vines. The health of our vines and a ecological approach are also both fundamental facets of an integral method of caring for our vineyards, treating the land in the same way as our grandparents did, while also incorporating new techniques.
Harvests come year after year, but they are never exactly the same, “that is the magic of good terroir”.
