At Ostatu, we have spent generations crafting young red wine through carbonic maceration, a traditional technique from Rioja Alavesa that produces fresh, expressive wines. It’s the wine we started with — the one made for years in bulk, and later in bottle, without much need for explanation. Anyone who drank it simply understood.
Since 2010 we’ve worked the vineyard differently. Without rushing, vintage by vintage, until certifying our entire range as organic wine. This year, it was finally the turn of the first one — the wine that came before all the others, the Ostatu Tinto.
Ecovino Awards 2026: Recognition for Our Organic Winery
This year, that recognition arrived. The 2026 Ecovino Awards honored several of our wines:
- Ostatu Tinto 2025 — Gran Ecovino Gold, the competition’s highest distinction
- Lore de Ostatu 2023 — Gold
- Valdepedro de Ostatu 2023 — Gold
- Escobal de Ostatu 2022 — Silver
That it was precisely the simplest, most everyday wine that received the highest honor says a great deal about how we understand our work in the vineyard: there are no important wines and lesser ones, only a way of doing things right — or not.
Carbonic Maceration and Organic Wine: The Origin, Certified
The wine is still the same one it has always been. The difference is that now we know, with certainty, how every grape in it has been cared for.
And that is the key.
